【World Book Week: Tips for developing reading habits】
Thursday, April 20, 2023
Reading benefits intellectual and mental development, including improving language development, training their focus through story immersion, and cultivating imagination, observation, and problem-solving skills. Reading with parents can also promote parent-child relationships. The habit of reading should be cultivated from a young age, over time they will find pleasure in reading. So, where should we start to cultivate children’s reading habits? ?
1. Set a regular time for reading
Parents should set a fixed time for reading with their children, such as before bedtime every night, to help children develop a habit of reading regularly.
2. Provide a suitable reading environment
Books should be placed within the child's line of sight and reach, such as near the bed or on the desk, so that they can easily pick up a book to read at any time.
3. Guide children to immerse themselves in the story
Parents can guide children to become more immersed in the story, such as helping them guess how the plot will develop or encouraging them to role-play.
4. Choose suitable books and related activities
Try to choose stories that children are interested in, also engage in related activities outside of reading, to enhance their interest in the stories.
5. Read anytime, anywhere
Prepare small, portable books so children can read while waiting for a ride or at a restaurant.
