Mighty Oaks believes a love for reading is part of what it means to be a life-long learner. As Confucius said, “you cannot open a book without learning something.” Each month we recommend a book based on our fruit of the spirit of the month. This fruit of the spirit is "joy" and we recommend ‘Thanking the Moon’.

Thanking the Moon"is a beautiful, simple storybook that captures the true essence of what Mid- Autumn festival is about. The author, Grace Lin tells the story of how the golden yellow mid-autumn moon is rising in the night sky and the little girl and her family are going to have a night-time picnic to celebrate the harvest moon.

Children are never too young to learn the value and joy of helping others and this theme is highlighted throughout the story. Thanking the moon teaches children how to show gratitude for things no matter how big or small.

The story is simple and- tailor made for reading aloud to young children, not forgetting how beautiful the illustrations are!
