Book of the Month: The Very Itchy Bear by Nick Bland
Wednesday, January 17, 2018
Mighty Oaks believes a love for reading is part of what it means to be a life-long learner. As Confucius said, “you cannot open a book without learning something.” Each month we recommend a book based on our fruit of the spirit of the month. This fruit of the spirit is "goodness" and we recommend "The Very Itchy Bear".
The Very Itchy Bear is a great story for children to understand the value of being a friend to one another and how good things happen to good people.
In ‘The Very Itchy Bear’ there is just one creature bothering the bear: the persistent Flea. Bear tries to get away, but Flea just won't leave him alone. When Bear finally gets rid of Flea, he finds that he misses him and a new friendship is born.
The book is perfect for children of all ages as there are few words, which provides the perfect opportunity for teachers and parents to ask questions about the illustrations and story line.
Every month, we recommend a "book of the month" for fun reading and recommended activities between parent and child at home! Stay tuned for Book of the Month next month!
As a Hong Kong Kindergarten Specialist, I’m often asked by parents how I read to my school kids. Here are some tips on how to make children life-long readers.
