How do you do story time with your kids? Do you pick up a book and read the words to them? Do you use your imagination?
Research has shown it is best to do both stories from books and also family narratives. Family stories contain your family’s personal narratives, so children whose families collaboratively discuss everyday events and families' blasts from the past have higher self-esteem, stronger self-concepts, and a better understanding of other people’s thoughts and emotions.
