The ruler approach was devised by Marc Brackett, a psychologist at Yale University, and it entails that when children are better at labelling and articulating their emoitons, parents and educators will be in a better position to support them. Try it at home with your children!
Marc Brackett states, "Emotions are the drivers of attention, decision making, relationships, and our health.” So let’s start RULER today: Recognise your emotions; Understand them; Label them and Express them in a Regulated way. Ask your child to plot their mood today with the “mood meter”: red = angry, blue = sad, green = calm and yellow = happy.
