Parenting tip series: How do you manage a child's negative emotions?

Do you know why Harvard researchers call children "moral philosophers"? This is because "when adults spark children’s thinking with ethical questions, they put issues of injustice on children’s radar and help children learn how to weigh their various responsibilities to others and themselves.” So how do you address strong negative emotions? The first thing to do is to let the child know that it is normal to have all kinds of emotional states – positive and negative – and that these emotions can be addressed in different ways.

At Mighty Oaks International Nursery and Kindergarten, children are encouraged through stories to reflect on what they would do if they were the main characters, and how to embody the nine "fruit of the spirit" in their actions.

With Thanksgiving upon us, our Hong Kong Kindergarten Specialist discusses what are some dos and donts when parents are showing our children why it’s important to feel and show gratitude.
